Sharp-Suite

The king is dead, long live the king. I am starting a new repo with code samples in C#. My heart is still with PowerShell <3, lets face it using in-line C# in PowerShell is a much nicer experience than actually using C#! However, threat emulation has to evolve over time and so does the tooling.

SwampThing

SwampThing lets you to spoof process command line args (x32/64). Essentially you create a process in a suspended state, rewrite the PEB, resume and finally revert the PEB. The end result is that logging infrastructure will record the fake command line args instead of the real ones. Think for example about launching a wmic xsl stylesheet for code execution but faking an innocuous wmic command.

DesertNut

DesertNut is a proof-of-concept for code injection using subclassed window callbacks (more commonly known as PROPagate). The pertinent part here is that this does not use any suspect thread creation API's, instead as implied it hijacks window callbacks. DesertNut includes two flags: "-l" to list all potential properties that could be hijacked and "-i" to inject shellcode into explorer and execute notepad. Note that this POC is only designed for x64 (tested on Win10 RS5 & Win7) since it requires custom shellcode with a specific callback function prototype. WindfarmDynamite

WindfarmDynamite is a proof-of-concept for code injection using the Windows Notification Facility (WNF). Of interest here is that this avoids suspect thread orchestration APIs (like CreateRemoteThread). The POC overwrites a process level WNF subscription callback which can be triggered by signaling a WNF state name. There currently exists little functionality in Windows to monitor WNF activity. WindfarmDynamite includes two flags: "-l PID" to list all WNF subscriptions for a specific process and "-i" to inject shellcode into explorer and execute notepad. Note that this POC is only designed for x64 (tested on Win10). For further details please see this talk by Alex Ionescu & Gabrielle Viala and this post by modexp.

MaceTrap

MaceTrap is a proof-of-concept for time stomping using SetFileTime. MaceTrap allows you to set the CreationTime / LastAccessTime / LastWriteTime for arbitrary files and folders. These elements can be changed individually, in bulk or can be duplicated from an existing file or folder. Time permitting I will update MaceTrap to include comprehensive PE compile time stomping as well (header, import table, export table, debug directory, resources and fixing up the checksum).

UrbanBishop

UrbanBishop is a small POC I wrote while I was testing Donut. If you haven't seen or used Donut I highly recommend you have a look at the magic TheWover & odzhan are doing there! This POC creates a local RW section in UrbanBishop and then maps that section as RX into a remote process. Once the shared section has been established the shellcode is written to the local section which then automatically propagates to the remote process. For execution UrbanBishop creates a remote suspended thread (start address is set to ntdll!RtlExitUserThread) and queues and APC on that thread, once resumed with NtAlertResumeThread the shellcode executes and the thread exits gracefully on completion. The POC can be adapted for inline shellcode but that was not my use case. I tested UrbanBishop on x64 Win10/Win7.

AtomicBird

AtmoicBird, is a crude POC to demo the use of EasyHook in .Net payloads combined with Costura to pack resources into a single module. AtomicBird has two functions, (1) Hook MessageBoxA => print to console / modify parameters => unhook and (2) Hook NtQuerySystemInformation->SystemProcessInformation, search the linked list of SYSTEM_PROCESS_INFORMATION Structs to find powershell processes and unlink them. The second function requires that you inject the .Net PE into a process that uses NtQuerySystemInformation (Process Explorer was used for testing), you can do that with execute-assembly or with donut by generating shellcode. AtmoicBird was only tested on x64 Win10.

RemoteViewing

RemoteViewing, is quick POC to demo RDP credential theft through API hooking using EasyHook for .Net payloads combined with Costura to pack resources into a single module. This is adapted from a post by @0x09AL that you can read here. To use this you have to compile RemoteViewing and then turn it into shellcode with Donut after which you have to inject that shellcode into mstsc. RemoteViewing will RC2 encrypt any credentials it captures and write them to disk. You can then use Clairvoyant to decrypt the file in memory, read out the results and delete the file.

Londor

Londor is a small toolkit which wraps frida-clr. I initially wanted to create a tool which would allow you to generate DynamoRIO coverage files but I also ported some code from Fermion to provide some more generic JScript injection capabilities. Note: There are some color palette bugs in Londor that I left unfixed (not my problem & does not affect usability) so if you use it in different terminal flavors you will see some wacky color combos. I may return to this at some point when I have โˆ†-freeTime.

VirtToPhys

VirtToPhys is a small POC to demonstrate how you can calculate the physical address for a kernel virtual address when exploiting driver bugs that allow you to map physical memory. VirtToPhys uses MsIo.sys, a WHQL signed driver that gives you colorful lights on your RAM (?lolwut), CVE-2019-18845. DiscerningFinch

DiscerningFinch is ... discerning! FinchGen lets you create an encrypted templated which you can copy/paste into DiscerningFinch. At runtime DiscerningFinch collects an array of OS specific string constants and then attempts to use those to brute-force decrypt the inner binary. If it succeeds it loads the inner binary into memory passing along any command line arguments that may exists. If it fails, it prints out a .NET-looking error message as feedback. Take note that the .NET version of the inner binary should be the same as that of DiscerningFinch, compile accordingly.

Canary

Canary is a small DIY extension to SharpChrome. It lets you pull browser history for Chrome or the new Chromium Edge. Results are orderd by visit_count and you can pull all data or use the "-l" flag to pull only the last X days. Most of the boilerplate is ripped out of SharpChrome and can be added there easily if someone wants to make a PR for that.

Reprobate

Reprobate consists of two cs files which contain all of the DynamicInvoke functionality and are meant to be plug-and-play for your C# projects. This can be preferable to using a nuget package or whole-sale including SharpSploit. Eventually I will integrate bubble-sort Syscall ID identification as well to avoid manual ntdll mapping/enumeration.

Melkor

Melkor is a simplistic POC. Melkor is able to read .Net assemblies and encrypt them in memory using DPAPI with the CRYPTPROTECT_LOCAL_MACHINE flag. These assemblies are kept encrypted when they are at rest. On demand Melkor can decrypt the assemblies and execute methods from them in a separate AppDomain. Once execution finishes the AppDomain is unloaded and only the encrypted assembly remains in memory. This POC is adapted from a TTP I read about in this report by ESET where the threat actor InvisiMole used DPAPI to encrypt part of their kit so it could only be decrypted/executed on that host.

With some proper bookkeeping and a code rework Melkor could be adapted to serve as a plugin interface for an implant. The LP could send assemblies (aka capabilities) to the implant which keeps them encrypted in memory. On demand, the interface could decrypt -> execute in new AppDomain -> destroy AppDomain -> clean up. This architecture would also allow the LP to perform an update of a capability that already exists in the implant.

PickmansModel

PickmansModel is a small POC which demonstrates robust encryption negotiation using Elliptic-Curve Diffieโ€“Hellman (ECDH) key exchange. In this instance the exchange is negotiated over a named pipe (server & client), it also supports traffic across hosts. The transport itself is incidental, you can rip the code out and put it in some other protocol if you like. I mostly post it as a code reference.

The main workflow is as follows:

  • The server and the client initialize ECDiffieHellmanCng using SHA256 as the hashing algorithm.
  • The server and the client have a static AES key they know (provided on the command line in this case).
  • They both encrypt their ECDiffieHellmanCng public keys with the static AES password and exchange them. This is not a connection security feature; it is used as an auth feature. Only a client that knows the AES key the server uses will be able to perform the key exchange.
  • Both the server and the client DeriveKeyMaterial. They now share a secret byte array. This array will be different every time the connection is established regardless of the initial exchange.
  • This secret is then used to construct a new AES Key and IV which is then used for ongoing communication.

TOTP-Gen

totp-gen is a small POC which demonstrates time-based one-time password (TOTP) generation in C#. This POC specifically gets DateTime.UtcNow and uses that as a Key value to initialize HMACSHA256. The HMACSHA256 object is then used to hash a String based seed and generate a numeric TOTP value.

This is mostly to be used as a reference for me so I can strip out the generator if needed and integrate it into other tools (e.g., an extra layer of auth for an encrypted comms channel). The only required functions are generateTOTP and validateTOTP in hTOTP.cs.

Notes:

  • TOTP's are scoped to a full UtcNow minute.
  • It is of course possible to adjust the timespan during which a code is valid but generating a new one every minute seems reasonable.
  • It would be easy, and recommended, that a forgiveness mechanic is added to generateTOTP so it calculates the current and previous TOTP in case an authentication code is generated before the minute rolls over and is received during the next minute.

SystemProcessAndThreadsInformation

While working on a side project I had to access out-of-process thread information, to do this I used NtQuerySystemInformation -> SystemProcessAndThreadInformation. As it may be helpful for reference I wrote a small wrapper round this function to list process and thread information for a specific PID. Note that I am not extracting all available information from SYSTEM_PROCESSES and SYSTEM_THREAD_INFORMATION, feel free to extend the output with a pull request.

handle

Just a small POC to dump handle information. There is nothing special here. The only thing to note is that, as a matter of course, NtQuerySystemInformation -> SystemExtendedHandleInformation doesn't tell you what type a handle is, it only provides you with a type index. This is annoying because these indexes tend to change from version to version. Traditionally the documented approach is to duplicate the handle and then resolve it's type but that isn't great for a lot of reasons. It is however possible to resolve all possible types using NtQueryObject -> ObjectAllTypesInformation (Win 8+). This poc shows that, it can dump types and do handle resolution for a pid where it automatically converts the TypeIndex to it's readable name.
