JUnit4Testrunner that removes final from classes and methods, especially needed in kotlin projects

Build Status Maven Central codecov

kotlin-testrunner

Classes and methods are final by default in kotlin. This makes mocking impossible. This leaves you with the possibilies of

  • either open everything you need in code just for your tests
  • introduce interfaces for every kotlin class you want to mock
  • use Powermock and prepare all your kotlin classes for the test with annoations.

This library removes final modifiers of classes and methods during the test in runtime.

Remarks

  • Since Mockito 2.0 this can be achieved by mockito itself, and you don't need this runner
  • This can not be combined with Robolectric for now but feel free to build a RobolectricTestrunner version based on this

Gradle

...
dependencies {
...
	testCompile 'de.jodamob.kotlin:kotlin-runner-junit4:0.3.1'
}

Usage

for Java:

@RunWith(KotlinTestRunner.class)
public class MyJavaTestclass {
   @Test
   public void test() {
   ...
   }
}

for Kotlin:

@RunWith(KotlinTestRunner::class)
class MyKotlinTestclass {
   @Test
   fun test() {
   ...
   }
}

By default this will change all the classes in the same package as your test. We cant do this for all the classes as we don't know your environment and dependencies. But you can configure this via annotations similar to Powermock:

@OpenedClasses("FinalClassSample::class")

or

@OpenedClasses("FinalClassSample::class", "FinalClass2Sample::class")

or simply tell us the package, and we will mock all those (incl subpackages)

@OpenedPackages("com.mypackage")

Full example:

@RunWith(KotlinTestRunner::class)
@OpenedPackages("com.mypackage")
class MyKotlinTestclass {
   @Test
   fun test() {
   ...
   }
}

Spock

Thanks to Paweł Urban we also support Spock.

Simply use the SpotlinTestRunner:

@RunWith(SpotlinTestRunner::class)
class MyKotlinTestclass {
   @Test
   fun test() {
   ...
   }
}

and import the spock runner instead the junit4 one:

	compile 'de.jodamob.kotlin:kotlin-runner-spock:0.3.1'
