isaac's reading list
This is a list of books that I have found useful in my gradual/ongoing transition from software developer to startup founder.
If there's something that you think I ought to read, then open an issue.
This is not a comprehensive list of every book I've read on any of these subjects. Just the ones that I can wholeheartedly recommend because they are interesting, entertaining, and/or educational enough to be worth the experience.
I have a strong preference towards audiobooks rather than paper or kindle. Audio means I can consume it while doing things that occupy my hands, like commuting or going to the gym.
Non-Fiction
Leadership, business, and startup stuff
- Turn The Ship Around
- The Founders Dillemas
- Good to Great
- Creativity, Inc.
- Facts and Fallacies of Software Engineering
- The Mythical Man Month
- Managing Humans
Communication as such
Cognitive Biases and other fun stuff
Fiction
- Ancillary Justice
- Ancillary Sword
- Ancillary Mercy
- The Martian
- A Fire Upon The Deep
- A Deepness In The Sky
- Dune
- Dune Messiah
- Children of Dune
- God Emperor of Dune (Clearly this is where the series goes really truly off the rails. Almost didn't make it to this list. The first 3 are much better, but this one is wacky enough to be kinda interesting.)
- World War Z Fantasticly well-done audiobook. The book really shines in this format.
