The Först Model simulated forest size distribution using a system of partial differential equations based on a McKendrick-von-Foerster equation. Initially, this model is used to optimise the harvesting strategy for mono-specific stand of European beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) and mixed stands of beech and spruce (Picea abies L.). The model was originally developed by Robert Beyer and Tim Rademacher.
